Strand, Mary Jacquelyn, 'Jackie', was born to parents Harold and Eunice Christensen on June 6, 1930. Raised on St. Paul's East Side, she held jobs at Swift's Meats, White Castle, the Emporium, and Nu Kin Chu.
She married Wallace C. Strand on June 12, 1945 and together raised six children. After ensuring they finished school, she obtained her GED and was hired on by the State of MN until her retirement in the late 90's. Not one to sit still, she accepted a security position at the MPLS/STP airport until 2002.
Growing up on old time country music, Jackie learned to play guitar and sing; for a short time even held a regular spot on a local t.v. show. Friends and family frequently requested her famous yodel.
When she wasn't playing guitar or reading her Bible, Jackie could be found 'shaking out a little dirt' while beautifying her yard with trees and flowers.
She passed away on December 6, 2016 and was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Betty and Colleen (Wise), and husband Wallace. She is survived by children Linda Nelson of Kingsbury, TX, Wallace Strand, Jr. of Maplewood, Cheri (Bennie) Burnsed of Fletcher, OK, Nathan Strand (Ann) of Stacy, Lisa Pietron of Norco, CA, and Jared Strand (Lydia) of Harris,MN as well as 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren who will all miss her dearly.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, December 27 at Silver Lake United Methodist Church in Oakdale, with a 10 a.m. viewing, 11 a.m. service officiated by Pastor Mary Kitchell, and burial at Lakeview Cemetary to follow.
