  • Barry Hillmer

    November 7, 1942 - October 30, 2016
    Barry Hillmer

Hillmer, Barry Thomas – Peacefully, with his family at his side, on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Riverview Manor, Peterborough.  Barry, formerly of Marmora, Toronto and Oakville, in his 74th year.  Dear father of Christine Hillmer, Laura Atherton and Charles Vella.  Loving and goofy grandfather of Cayden White and Cole White.  Brother of Heather Law (Dave).  Favourite uncle of Shannon Law and Aaron Law.  Barry leaves behind the love of his life, Carolyn Atherton and many other friends.

Barry loved fishing, boating, crunching numbers and spending time with his family.  He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, being extremely cheap, a terrible singer and making his own (awful) beer and wine.  He was a fighter to the end.

A few comments about Barry, to get an idea of who he was:

"He really is an amazing person; with everything he has had to deal with in life he never lost his big smile or his sense of humor. I haven't seen him in years but I can still hear his crazy laugh."

"I am heartbroken - Barry has been such an inspiration to me and so many others."

"I would not be the woman I have become if it was not for you in my life. I love you Barry forever and ever!"

"Barry made a huge impact on my life as well. I spent more time with him than I did with my own father during my teenage years. What an amazing and unique character he is."

"Barry has touched all us all in one way or another.  For me it was mister percentage or was it the wonder wine or was it the fact that he preheated his hot water tank he had in the backyard he was to the nickel. ok to the penny., Barry had a laugh like no other.  He had a few drinks I remember when he bought a boat without seats & cut down lawn chairs to fit . I am 54 Carolyn 64 Barry 74 ten years apart between the three of us I love that man cause he will be in my mine until the day I'm no longer here."

"My friend who preheated his water & played the stocks & made fantastic wonder wine, always good for a laugh love that man how could you forget a man like Barry Hillmer."

A Celebration of Life will be held for Barry Hillmer on Wednesday, November 2nd at Kelsey's (1209 Landsdowne St W)

Met Barry while he was a resident next door to my Mother's room at River view Manor. He was always cheerful and we had a few good laughs especially while he was learning to walk down the hall with his prosthesis. We will miss his laughter and his smiles.
