Mildred McKim (1923 - 2014)
Mildred Irene Macy was born at home on the family farm in Poweshiek County, Iowa on March 27, 1923 to Harold F Macy and Abbie Arnold Ratcliff Macy. She was a birthright member of the Lynnville Friends Church and became a convinced member upon her declaration of faith at 12 years of age.
She graduated from Searsboro Consolidated School in 1940 and attended William Penn College (now William Penn University) in Oskaloosa, Iowa. While at Penn College, she met fellow student Charles "Chuck" McKim. She and Chuck were married on November 16, 1941 at the country home where Mildred was born. Chuck enlisted in the Navy in January 1942 and Mildred accompanied Chuck to the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois. After Chuck's return from overseas deployment in World War II, she and Chuck moved to Washington, DC; to Newport, Rhode Island; and Long Beach, California where they lived for almost 30 years. In 1975 they moved to Clifton, Colorado where they built a home together and where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, a son Michael, her parents, her sister Marilyn, and one grandson Jon.
She is survived by one son Dennis (Kathy) McKim of Clifton, Colorado; one daughter Debra (David) Rhodes of Hastings, Nebraska; and by grandchildren Michael Scott, Macy, James, and Drew; and by three great-grandchildren.
We remember her as Mom, Grandma, GG, and Aunt Mildred. She was a living example to all of us of the fruit of the Spirit of Jesus Christ: of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We thank God for her presence in our lives and we miss her terribly, even as we look forward to our reunion with her in heaven.
